Swim & Dive announces its 2022-23 calendar

San Diego State swimming and diving head coach Mike Schrader has revealed the team’s 2022-23 schedule, as the Aztecs seek to defend their Mountain West championship from last spring.

SDSU’s highly anticipated campaign begins Friday, September 9, when it hosts the University of San Diego in a swim-only pentathlon meet at the Aztec Aquaplex.

After a three-week hiatus, San Diego State’s early-season slate resumes in earnest with a double encounter, as the Scarlet and Black travel up the coast to fight Pepperdine on October 6, before quickly surrendering in the Central Valley for the Chick-Fil-A Invitational, hosted by Fresno State, Oct. 7-8.

After another two-week respite, the Aztecs will hit the road again, traveling east to Arizona’s Valley of the Sun for two days, October 21-22, to compete in a quad meet against Loyola Marymount. , Seattle U., and host Grand Canyon in Phoenix.

As the schedule turns the pages, SDSU meets at Aztec Aquaplex for a doubleheader against Utah Tech on Nov. 5, before heading to the Lone Star State for the three-day SMU Invitational, Nov. 17-19, in Dallas. , Texas.

With the holidays fast approaching, the Aztec Divers will take center stage at the CBU Invitational, December 16-17, competing in platforming events on day one at Mission Viejo, before wrapping up the encounter on the California Baptist campus the next day in Riverside.

Three weeks later, San Diego State kicks off the new year at home with a doubleheader against Cal State East Bay and Incarnate Word on January 5.

The following week, the Scarlet and Black will host Senior Day festivities when they lock horns with Pepperdine in a rematch at the Aztec Aquaplex on January 13, while SDSU divers head to the highway for the Bruin Diving Invitational at UCLA the following day on January 13. 14.

After another two-week break in competition, the Aztecs will split their team for a double meet against USD on January 27, as the SDSU swimming delegation runs in the Toreros’ pool, while the divers remain on the campuses for a clash with their crosstown counterparts at the Aquaplex.

Aztec divers will once again find themselves in the spotlight when they hit the road for the Lumberjack Invitational, Feb. 3-5, in Flagstaff, Arizona.

A trip back to Texas awaits the Scarlet and Black soon after, as SDSU looks to defend its conference crown at the Mountain West Championships, Feb. 15-18, in Houston. Last season, the Aztecs posted the best score in conference history (1,541.5) to win the MW title for the third time in the past four years. For his efforts, Schrader earned the eighth Mountain Swim Coach of the Year honor of his career.

Post-season action kicks into high gear the following month when the Aztec Divers seek to qualify for the national meet at the Zone E Diving Championships, March 6-8, with a venue to be determined.

The quest for national glory continues the following week, March 15-18, when the 2022-23 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships take place in Knoxville, Tennessee.

SDSU puts the finishing touches on its campaign with another swim-only event against USD at the Aztec Aquaplex on April 20, taking on the Toreros in a long-course encounter.
