New Mexico State University is a public university located in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The school is a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in Division I of the NCAA. The New Mexico State women finished second out of eight teams at the 2021 WAC Championships. They were just nine points behind conference champions northern Arizona.
Based on his best times, Brownell has the potential to make an immediate impact for the team at the conference level. Her best times would have placed her in the “A” final of the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke and the “B” final of the 100 and 200 freestyle.
Brownell will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the 2026 class with the sprint freestyler Katie Ice Rink and freestyler remotely Naomi slee. She arrives just in time as the team gets their fastest bib diploma, Maude Boily-Dufour, although she has the potential to take a fifth year due to the COVID-19 eligibility waiver.
