S&D opens season with intra-team clash
DENTON, Texas – North Texas Swim and Dive opens its season Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with an intra-team meeting split between the Pohl Recreation Center and the PEB Natatorium. Ten student-athletes will make their Mean Green debut.
The Mean Green brings back five divers, including two (Olivia dollar and Saylor hawkins) finishing in two A finals each at the last meeting of the season. Swimmers Alvena Walpole and Jenny holwell also reached the best rounds in Atlanta.
With ten new faces in the pool, the head coach Brittany Roth added two new names to the coaching staff: diving coach Stephanie O’Callaghan and assistant coach Justin hastings. Hastings said everyone had welcomed him and his coaching style with open arms.
“The girls impressed me with their willingness to learn,” said the new assistant. “It’s often difficult for new coaches to come in and get their ideas, thoughts and nuances appreciated, but they’ve been awesome.”
UNT faces its first opponent at 5:00 p.m. on October 29 for a home game with the UIW. The Mean Green will follow that up with another home fight against New Mexico State on November 6 and close the home schedule with the alumni meet on November 13.
The team will then travel to Lawrence for the Kansas Classic November 18-21, followed by Little Rock on December 15, SMU on January 14, Rice on January 22, and the SMU time trial on February 10. 5.
Playoff games begin with the U.S. Conference Championships Feb. 22-27, followed by the CSCAA Diving Zone Championships March 9-13, and the season ends with the NCAA Championships ending. take place from March 15 to 20.
The full team returns to the pool for the first time since February, where they tied the program’s best result at the US Conference Championships for third place. The swimming and diving teams finished 2-2 in the regular season with wins over Incarnate Word and Arkansas Little Rock.
