Rams welcome pioneers when they first meet at home

FORT COLLINS, Col. – With the doors wide open for the first time in nearly two full calendar years, the Colorado State Women’s Swimming and Diving is expected to host Denver at the Moby Arena for a Pink Out duel on Friday.

The meeting begins at 3.15 p.m., with a 3-meter dive, with a swim from 4 p.m. Entrance is free for the public.

The last time the Rams were able to set up a fan meet was against Kansas on October 26, 2019.

“I hope that with a fairly large crowd after a year where we couldn’t see anyone,” the CSU coach Christophe woodard said about waiting for the team to be home. “I think they’ll be absolutely amplified if there are people there and the music is playing, they’re in their halls and on their blocks and on their boards. I think they’re going to be very excited.”

The team weekend will end with a double duel on Saturday at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, as the Rams take on the host miners and the University of Mary. It’s the second weekend of competition for them and the second time swimming on consecutive days, which Woodard loves.

“Two days? Give me three days,” said Woodard. “I love seeing them swim and dive on consecutive days because it’s not just about their level of performance, it tells me about their tenacity and ability to shift gears between different programs, as well as different sites. I’m excited about it. I think it can tell us a lot. “

Colorado State had a successful season opener, winning seven duels in the Intermountain Shootout at Grand Junction. Rams have won individual freshman victories Maisy Barbosa (400 yards individual medley) and Katie McClelland (100 breaststroke), with a host of more top-eight finishers throughout the two-day event.

The Rams are looking to build on that performance, coming out this season with the mantra of believing they can accomplish more than they ever did, and Friday’s meeting serves as a reminder. In Denver, CSU faces a team they managed to eliminate for the first time in 10 tries a year ago.

“With that senior class, when they came into freshman, I think we saw ourselves as underdogs but rising,” said Woodard. “Two years scoring everyone at the conference and the first weekend, I think their confidence is starting to swell. They realize that there is still work to be done, and the competition ahead is probably harder. I don’t think they’re afraid of that, and it gives me a lot of confidence in any meeting that wins, loses, or draws, they’ll come out of it unscathed by their potential. the most important thing was not to wait for the conference to be good, start being awesome from the start. “

Saturday’s meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Natatorium on the Colorado School of Mines campus.
