Oil tankers open Pebworth Invitational in second place
Wabash scored two first places to take second in the team scoring after day one of the 2021 Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational. The three-day event, sponsored by the Montgomery County Visitors and Convention Bureau, takes place at Crawfordsville High School Aquatics Center.
Wabash opened Friday night’s final by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Caleb mccarty, Ethan johns, Isaac temores, and Gavin Hill ran in first place with a time of 1: 24.85. The Little Giants also placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay with Connor craig, Brandon edwards, Daren Glory, and Marc Nicholson combining for a time of 1: 26.79.
McCarty scored an individual victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a career best time of 20.92 to win Friday’s final. Johns added a fifth place with a time of 21:58. Edwards placed eighth in the âAâ final finishing in 21.73. Hill added a ninth place finish in the top final with a time of 21.74. Temores also made the âAâ final for Wabash and placed 10th with a time of 22.15.
Glore was third in the 500-yard freestyle final. He clocked 4: 40.89. Justin dusza competed in the 200-yard individual medley “A” final, finishing in 1: 58.92 to take ninth place overall.
Wabash scored a total of 219 points on Matchday 1 to lead only Birmingham Southern College in the squad with a total of 271.5 points. Franklin College is in third place with a score of 208. Colorado College (149 points), Albion College (147.5), Asbury University (93 points) and Center College (77) round out the team’s score.
The second day of competition begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the preliminary round of high school swimming. The first of two diving days will begin at 1 p.m. with events taking place at the Natatorium Class of 1950 on the Wabash campus.
