Michigan verbally clings to DI state champion of independent schools in North Carolina, Matthew Kroll
NEW COMMITMENTS: University of Michigan to host National Junior Qualifier Matthieu kroll from Concord, NC to Ann Arbor in the fall of 2022 after sending his verbal pledge to the Wolverines.
he will join Ozan Kalafat, Lucas hodgson and Logan zucker as a member of the 2026 class.
Regarding his engagement, he said:
“Beyond the pleasure of announcing my verbal commitment to furthering my varsity and swimming career at the University of Michigan! A big thank you to my family, friends, coaches and teammates for all their support! I can’t wait to be part of such a historic team! GO BLUE 〽️〽️ ”
Kroll competes year round with SwimMAC Carolina and finished eighth in the 100m breaststroke at the Cary sectional championships and won bronze in both breaststroke events at the 18 and under winter championships. He also ran 18th in the 100m breaststroke at the Greensboro Futures in 2019.
His best moments include:
- 100 chest – 55.09
- 200 chest – 1: 58.66
- 200 MNI – 1: 53.42
- 400 IM – 4: 00.87
A senior attending Cannon School, Kroll is a four-time NCISAA State Championship finalist. He won the 100m breaststroke and 500m freestyle as a junior while finishing second in the 200m freestyle and third in the 100m breaststroke in his second campaign.
Kroll will add much needed breaststroke depth after the Will chan, AJ Bornstein, and Mason hunter by the time he arrives on campus. Under the head coach Mike Bas, the Wolverines finished fourth at the 2021 Big Ten Championships.
