Here are 24 scam texts I received in just 1 month

When it comes to spam, sometimes it’s hard to tell if some are regional or completely random. No matter how they come out, one thing is for sure. They are completely undesirable.

Here in New Jersey, we have no shortage of them. My wife and I get hit regularly. Although for some reason I seem to be getting more than her. No idea why.

Sometimes the texts are funny and will make you laugh. Other times it may be a product for sale where they are trying to solicit your business. At least, that’s what they want you to think.

And then there are those that mimic the services we all use and pay for. To me, these are some of the most dangerous because they can seem so legit. Case in point: confirmation text on an invoice that you’ve paid, but provides you with a link to verify a term or something.

These can be the trickiest because they require you to do a double take. Always consider if this is part of the normal course of action. The last thing you want to do is give the keys to your personal life to a scammer.

Before I dive into the cute spam emails I’ve received, there’s one particular type of text I haven’t received yet. This is when someone pretends to be someone you know and they are in a situation where they need you to send them money immediately.

Unfortunately, some of these scammers have gotten really good at how they word their messages and can fool some people quite easily. Always watch for red flags when something seems out of the ordinary.

Over the course of a month, I personally received 24 spam emails ranging from product offers to special giveaways for the services I use. And while I hope you get a chuckle out of it, I also want you to know what to look for.

Now, before you answer the poll below, I’m going to admit something. I almost fell for an online scam once. It was for a Christmas present my wife wanted and I didn’t pay much attention to the web address. Eventually I realized this, but had to suspend my credit card to stop payment. And yes, the scammers sent an email asking for another card.

Although this is a different situation than an SMS scam, the same rules apply. I have certainly learned my lesson and I make sure to stay very vigilant. So far I haven’t been tricked by an SMS scam.

So I’m asking you to be honest, New Jersey, there’s no shame in that. Have you ever been the victim of an SMS scam? Survey below and let us know.

Remember that it is very easy to get tricked if the scammer sends the right message at the right time. Be alert and stay alert.
