Charlie Krone, NAG relay record holder, joins the navy (2022)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of the SwimSwam College Recruitment Channel and all engagement news. For many, swimming in college is a long-held dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who have supported them on their journey.

Charlie Krone, a high school student from Zionsville, Indiana, has pledged to join the United States Naval Academy class of 2026. Krone attends Zionsville High School and swims for the Zionsville Swim Club just north of Indianapolis.

Krone is above all a freestyler and a butterfly who notably swam the first stage of the 15-16 of the Zionsville Swim Club. NAG record of the Boys 400 free relay last December. This relay also included the class of the highest ranked rookie in 2023, Will Modglin, who recently enlisted in Texas.

At last year’s Indiana High School State meet, Krone was fifth in the 100 butterfly in 48.70, while also playing key roles in the Zionsville 200 IM relay and 400 freestyle relay. Zionsville finished third in the team standings, behind Carmel and Fishers.

Krone’s best SCY times include:

  • 100 free: 45.68
  • 200 free: 1: 40.76
  • 500 free: 4:33.50
  • 100 flies: 48.09
  • 200 flies: 1: 51.97

Krone plans to make an immediate impact for the Navy, whose championship fixture last year was a double encounter with the military after the Patriot League called off its conference championship fixture. In this dual competition, the Navy fly group was led by now graduate Micah Oh who won the 200 butterfly in 1: 43.99 and rookie Jonah Harm who won the 100 in 47.44. With a full year of high school remaining, Krone would have been the Navy’s third-fastest swimmer in the Army Duel 100, behind Harm and fellow freshman Pat Colwell. Colwell and Harm will both have two years of eligibility when Krone arrives in Annapolis, which should create a strong group of butterflies for aspirants.

Krone joins the Zach Stump distance bib and freestyler in the Navy class of 2026.
