Cal Poly adds Crow Canyon Sharks’ Alex Seybold for 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all Pledge News. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who have supported them along their journey.

Choosing to drive the three hours south for his university career, Alex Seybold from Danville, Calif., announced he will be swimming at Cal Poly this fall. Seybold, who swims at his club with the Crow Canyon Country Club Sharks, recently graduated from San Ramon Valley High School.

Last month, Seybold concluded his high school swimming career by competing in the CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships. At this meet, he was just off his lifetime bests in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM, finishing the breaststroke in 57.19 and the IM in 1:53.09.

Almost all of Seybold’s lifetime bests come from a meet in April, where he recorded eight personal bests over the four days of competition. He finished within the competition’s fasted time in three different events, the 200 backstroke (1:50.74), 200 breaststroke (2:03.49) and 200 IM (1:52.63).

SCY best times

  • 100 return – 51.96
  • 200 back – 1:50.74
  • 100 chest – 57.13
  • 200 chest – 2:02.43
  • 200 IM – 1:51.98
  • 400 IM – 4:00.67

The Mustang men finished 5th out of 7 teams at the 2022 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships. The team’s top scorer was second on the list, with Kieran McNulty winning two medals in the freestyle distance events.

Seybold will help bolster the team’s breaststroke and MI groups, with times not far off the team’s best last season. At the MPSF Championships, he would have finished B runner-up in the 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM and C runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.

The 2022-23 season will mark the Mustang’s third season under the head coach Phil Yoshidawho spent 19 years as the team’s assistant coach before taking charge of the program in 2020.

Seybold will join Camilo Vargas, cole married, macfollmer, Nick Elliotand Alex Power in the class of 2026 program.
